These three verbs can be used with a direct object. The meaning is that someone is putting on, taking off, or changing certain clothing.

The sweating runner changes shoes.

The same verbs can be used with an accusative reflexive pronoun to refer to dressing in general, with no particular article of clothing specified.

Nach einer langen Dusche habe ich mich angezogen.

After a long shower I got dressed.

Der schüchterne Junge will sich nicht ausziehen.

The shy boy doesn’t want to undress.

Kannst du dich nicht schneller umziehen?

Can’t you change faster?

Finally, these verbs can be used with an indirect object in the form of a dative reflexive pronoun. In addition, the sentence also contains a direct object (an article of clothing).

Sie möchte sich ein blaues Kleid anziehen.

She’d like to put on a blue dress.

Willst du dir den schweren Mantel ausziehen?

Do you want to take off the heavy coat?

Er hat sich die Stiefel umziehen wollen.
